Cardi B covers Vogue Mexico, gears up for solo music "soon"
Cardi B, the rap sensation, is stepping into the solo spotlight once again. In a cover interview with Vogue Mexico, she revealed her decision to take a break from collaborations and release her upcoming single as she prepares for her highly anticipated second album.
Cardi B's recent feature streak showcased her versatile collaborations with artists like Lizzo, Normani, and Rosalia. She teamed up with Kanye West and Lil Durk for "Hot Shit," Glorilla for the hit remix "Tomorrow 2," and joined forces with Kay Flock, Bory 300, and Dougie B for the remix of "Shake It."
She also partnered with Latto for the remix of "Put it on the Floor" and collaborated with underground rapper FendiDaRappa on "Point Me 2." Her most recent feature was on "Jealousy," a track with her husband Offset.
While her collaborative efforts have been successful, Cardi B is now excited to drop a solo single, ending a two-and-a-half-year gap of solo releases since "Up" in February 2021.
She emphasized, "I’m not going to release any more collaborations, I’m going to release my next solo single. Right now, I’m working on the cover art and ideas for the next record because it’s definitely coming up. Everyone always tells me I should put the record out now."
In her interview, Cardi B also shed light on the challenges of fame and the pressures of being heavily criticized. She noted that she receives more judgment than her peers.
"There are a lot of female rappers out there who aren’t as judged as they judge me." However, she remains steadfast, asserting, "I have no room for failure, I can’t lose."
She reflected on the impact of social media, noting a revolution in online behavior: "I think there has been a revolution in social media. People today have become more sensitive, but also more brutal." Music has become her outlet to address critics, as seen in her recent release "Jealousy," where she and her husband aimed to respond to their detractors through music.
Beyond music, Cardi B is ambitious in her pursuits. She revealed her intentions to expand into other creative realms, sharing, "I also have plans in the world of cinema. In fact, I have plans to do as much as I can: Fashion, branding… I want to do it all, honey."
