Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion team up again for 'Bongos'
They're baaaack! Three years after shaking up the world with their massive hit "WAP", rap superstars Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have announced another collaboration "Bongos".
The new song is set to be released on Friday.
The pair shared the news on their respective social media pages on Monday, following a sultry clip posted by Cardi B where she teased that she had a "big announcement" to make.
The announcement was big indeed, sending fans and haters alike into a frenzy.
Social media was abuzz with discussion as many wondered what the two had cooked up this time and how it would compare to WAP, which has been regarded as the biggest female rap song of our time.
As you would recall, WAP (an acronym for Wet Ass Pussy), created quite a ruckus when it dropped in August 2020.
The song was condemned as "vulgar" by some and hailed as "empowering" by others. But one thing was for certain, everybody was tuned in!
The song was debated by politicians, chanted at protests at the White House and even had petitions created about it.
All this attention contributed to the song's massive success.
WAP became the fastest selling single of the 2020s decade, surpassing 1 million units in less than 2 weeks. It surged to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first time a female rap song had debuted at #1 since Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop" in 1998.
It stayed at #1 for an impressive four weeks.
Additionally, the song broke streaming and sales records and remains hotly debated to this day, while many other female rappers have tried and failed to replicate its cultural impact.
Because of the massive success of WAP, fans are now eager to see what the new collaboration will be like.
Notably, Bongos is Megan Thee Stallion's official return to the music scene since the polarizing trial of Tory Lanez who was found guilty of shooting her in the foot during an incident in 2020.
Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the attack.
Cardi B was one of the few female rappers to speak out in support of Megan during the ordeal, as Megan faced a barrage of hate and online attacks from Lanez' fans. The two have remained close friends since their first collaboration and seem to be one of the few genuine relationships in the brutal female rap industry.
The collaboration is also Cardi B's first single since "Hot Shit", in July 2022.
She has been on an impressive feature run in recent months but "Bongos" is the first song of her own she will release in over a year.
The song comes as Cardi B prepares to roll out her highly anticipated sophomore album.
