Doja Cat has secured her first solo No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

She has also become the first female rapper to top the charts in 2023 with a solo rap song.

Her song "Paint the Town Red" hit the coveted No. 1 spot on September 11, 2023, in its fifth week on the charts.

Doja Cat's achievement is a major milestone for female rappers. The last time a female rapper topped the chart was in August 2022, when Nicki Minaj's song "Super Freaky Girl" reached No. 1.

Rapper Latto achieved a No. 1 hit in July with "Seven" a collaboration with BTS' Jungkook. However, the song was a rap verse on a pop song and not a rap song in itself.

"Paint the Town Red" is the first rap song by a solo female rapper to reach No. 1 since Minaj.

What makes Doja Cat's feat even more impressive is she accomplished it without releasing multiple versions of "Paint the Town Red" which seems to be the new method to inflate a song's streaming and sales numbers.

Minaj relied on this method to propel Super Freaky Girl to No. 1 in 2022 and other artistes such as Taylor Swift, Coi Leray and Beyonce have utilised this method to boost their song's numbers and placement on the charts.

Doja Cat's achievement was accomplished without these extra remixes and versions, earning her well-deserved bragging rights.

"Paint the Town Red" is Doja's second No. 1 hit. She previously rose to the top of the charts with the remix to "Say So" featuring Nicki Minaj in 2020.

The "Demons" rapper is also celebrating yet another record-breaking achievement. She has broken the broken the record for the most monthly listeners for a female rapper in Spotify history.

Following a mesmerizing performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night, Doja Cat's Spotify listeners soared to 66.8 million. This makes her the female rapper who currently has the most monthly listeners. It is also the highest peak of monthly listeners for a female rapper in the platform's history. The previous record for the most monthly listeners for a female rapper on Spotify was held by Nicki Minaj, who had 62.4 million listeners.

Doja Cat's popularity is no doubt set to increase in the coming weeks as fans anticipate the release of her fourth studio album "Scarlet" on September 22.
